The problem of identity

1 Mar

Just noticed another snippet about the man-machine convergence idea. Here’s the link to the BBC News item: http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20121108-will-men-and-machines-merge .

I tend to agree with Ray Kurzweil’s ideas about this seemingly inevitable merging. But that doesn’t mean it’s all good despite many of the medical and health issues that will be improved and even permanently fixed. There will come a day, for example, when parents will choose to have a newborn injected with a nanobot – a tiny computer chip – that keeps track of health aspects for the child.

I can forsee the day when a person will directly connect to the global web: plug yourself in to the webnet of the future. Is that a good use of technology? One way or another, we’ll all find out.

I’ll continue with my discussion about androids next post…
